You finally got an Amazon Alexa. Congratulations! Now, have you wondered how it can make your life easier? Do you have a love/hate relationship with your Alexa because “she just doesn’t get you”? It’s not you – it’s her settings. Check out these little-known secrets and unlock the full potential of your Alexa.

  • Someone in your home already named Alexa or something similar? Don’t stress, you have the power to rename your device: Open the Alexa app on your mobile device > Tap the Menu icon and select Settings > Go to Device Settings. Select the device that you want to change the wake word for, select the new wake word. Your options are “Alexa,” “Amazon,” “Echo,” “Ziggy” and “Computer.”
  • Would you like to make an announcement in another room in your house? If you have multiple Alexa devices in your home, you can use the Drop In feature as intercom-like communication system between rooms. Open the app > Select Devices to display all the devices on your account> Tap the Device you want to enable. Tap the Settings icon > Scroll down and tap Communications and toggle on that setting > Tap Announcements, then toggle on that setting. Tap Drop In > Select My Household. Now you can   call the kids to dinner without leaving the kitchen!
  • Tired of only being allowed to ask one question at a time? Follow-Up mode enables Alexa to continue to listen for additional commands after responding to your initial request. Open the app > Select Devices > select your device. Select Device Settings > Select Follow-Up Mode.
