While preparing for our last vacation out of Atlanta’s Hartsfield Jackson Airport, at the last minute I was cutting and pasting our travel information into a document – in order to email it to those who needed it and to ensure that I had it all in one place. It was the last thing that I needed to worry about while trying to ensure that clothes were packed, toiletries were in the approved quart bags, and all electronics/chargers were stowed in my suitcase.
After mentioning this to a friend upon my return, she then shared the TripIt app. For a busy professional, like a lawyer or doctor, TripIt can be a big time-saver. You can use TripIt to organize your travel plans into one itinerary and share your itinerary with others.
The first step is to download and install the app. This can be done by searching “TripIt” in the App Store. I downloaded TripIt Free. Once it is installed, create an account using an email address then begin adding trips into the app or online at www.tripit.com.
An easy way to organize your travel information is to forward (from the email address associated with your login) all travel confirmation emails to plans@tripit.com. TripIt recognizes your email address and automatically adds the forwarded itinerary to your account. Another feature includes Custom Itineraries, allowing you to add maps, directions, notes, etc.
Once you’ve compiled your information you can share your itineraries with family, friends or co-workers simply by clicking on “Share” and adding their email addresses.
For our Tuesday Tip readers, another helpful tip that can be used once you reach your destination is Waze.
Happy Travels!
