If you’ve ever looked up at an airplane and wondered where it could be headed, well, wonder no more. With the power of the internet at your fingertips, you can view details on just about any airplane you see in the sky on FlightAware. With nearly-real-time tracking, you can view an interactive map of your area, see the active planes overhead, and click on a moving airplane icon to see its data. From there you can view where and when the airplane took off, where and when it’s scheduled to land, and its current speed, as well as the planned top speed, altitude and much more.
If you want to track your own upcoming flight, you can do that as well. Type your flight number in the search bar and see data on where it’s been prior to your flight, and if it’s expected to arrive on time. You can track all flights across all carriers here too; there’s no need to navigate directly to your carrier’s website.
For those who love data, there’s a MiseryMap, which shows real time graphs on which airports have the most delays and cancellations. There’s also a section showing how many current flights are in the air at that moment, which type of aircraft is flown most, and which airport is the busiest.
The next time you find yourself daydreaming and looking up at overhead planes, take a moment to look up where it’s headed online!
