Tuesday Tip: How Do You Stay Organized? Have You Remembered the Milk?

By Kate O’Neal

Have you ever stopped to think about how you stay organized? How do you keep up with everything that is tasked to you? I used to rely on my calendar to provide reminders for everything, from keeping up with my to-do list at work to remembering to give my dogs heartworm and flea medicine once a month. Recently, however, I learned of a great app called Remember the Milk from Robin Hensley of Raising the Bar. She uses it for productivity, to keep her on task throughout the day and mindful of what she’s working on and what is coming up.

raising-the-barRobin Hensley, a Network 1 client, is a business development coach for attorneys and CPAs. She often holds coaching sessions with them, and continues to coach her clients in between sessions. She serves as their accountability partner and in order to stay on track, sets herself reminders to remind her clients to be accountable. For example, one of her clients wants a reminder on Wednesday to plan early Thursday before he goes to the office. She provides that reminder.

remember-the-milkRemember the Milk does exactly this. It provides an easy way to manage your tasks and is available across many interfaces, including the web, your desktop, and smartphones. There are both free and premium versions ($39.99/year) available. The free app offers many features which makes this a strong solution, including a “daily digest” to provide a look at your day ahead and reminders as they come up throughout the day. If you prefer to pay for the premium version, you gain the ability to sync Remember the Milk with your Outlook calendar and receive text reminders.

By using Remember the Milk, Robin is able to keep both herself and her clients on track to meet their goals, and I’m hoping it can help me do so as well. There are many additional features that I didn’t touch on today, so if you’ve been wondering, “What can I do to stay on task?” you might consider giving Remember the Milk a try.
