Phishing season is in full force. Even well-trained people are getting tricked during these unsettling times., The bad guys never miss an opportunity to prey on us: fake CDC, fake Coronavirus Guidelines for America, fake CARES loan information and fake offers from companies we know and trust.
If you are working remotely on your home computer you probably have less software protecting you. That’s not good. However, the biggest security risk remains the same: YOU. Be extra vigilant right now and practice these 5 steps:
1. Slow down when reading emails
2. Hover over email addresses and links – if they don’t match what they say they
are they are fake
3. Does anything look off: spelling, grammar, context? If you’re unsure, don’t trust it
4. If it’s supposedly from someone you know, call them up (use the phone # you
know/trust; not the one in the email)
5. Forward the email to your IT support and ask for their guidance
