Tuesday Tip: Accept or Reject Calls on your AirPods

I do a lot of walking, and when I do, I always have my AirPods in to listen to music. I also want my phone handy so I can answer a call in case something arises that needs my attention or reject it if it is spam. The challenge is trying to answer calls quickly, especially if my phone is in my pocket or if it is cold out and I’m wearing gloves. Siri is here to save the day, and you don’t even have to call her name.

To take advantage of this feature, you will need an iPhone running on IOS 14.5 or later version. You will also need to have one of the following sets of wireless headphones: AirPods 2nd Gen or later, AirPods Pro, AirPods Max, Powerbeats, Powerbeats Pro, or Beats Solo Pro.

Next, you need to set up Siri to announce incoming calls.

  • Open the Settings App
  • Tap Siri & Search
  • Tap Announce Calls
  • Choose one of the following options: Always, Headphones & Car, or Headphones only

Siri will now announce incoming calls, along with who is calling, through your headphones. If you want to take the call, you simply respond with “answer.” If you do not wish to answer the call, respond with “reject” or “decline.”

I have started using this feature and it has been a game changer for a multitasker like me.

This is great when my hands are full or dirty and wet! I just have to keep remembering not to lay them down and forget where they are.
