Tuesday Tip: Repurpose an Old Mobile Phone

old iPhoneI am sure you have been there. It is time to buy a new phone, but what do you do with the old one? Before you decide to throw it away or sell it for a few bucks, here are some creative ideas to consider:

  1. Turn your old phone into a TV remote by downloading the Universal TV Remote Control App. Once the app is installed, all you have to do is make sure your Smart TV and old phone are connected to the same Wifi network.
  2. Use it as an alarm clock. Do you prefer to start the day without the stress of immediately checking your emails and messages? Charge your real phone in another room and use your old one as your alarm clock.
  3. Turn your old phone into a home security camera by installing Alfred CCTV Camera for Home. This app gets great reviews, but you do need to make sure it is located somewhere that it can be plugged in at all times.
  4. Turn it into a dashcam. Download and activate a dash cam app (Droid Dashcam for Droid and Smart Dash Cam for iPhone both get good reviews). You’ll need to purchase a mount to attach your phone to the dashboard, plug it into a power supply, and you are ready to use. It can continuously record videos in loop mode, add subtitles, and has many other features as well.
