Tuesday Tip: Take Better Care of Your Plants with Planta

I’ve been into plants for most of my adult life. I have a greenhouse so at times I have more plants than I can count. Because of all my flora, I’ve been searching for a good, free app to inventory my plants. There is no shortage of plant care apps, especially after the pandemic boosted the popularity of houseplants. I specifically wanted a plant app where I could inventory my plants, include their location, and edit the names and photos. I finally found Planta. Its free version allows me to create different locations for my plants (such as greenhouse, indoors, patio, garden, etc.,) and from there I can add the name of the plant and my own photo for each listing. There are bonus features too, such as the ability to list the current health of the plant, the option to mark it as dead, or delete the listing. It also gives you a plant’s ideal requirements to thrive as well as reminders to water and fertilize it. If that’s not enough, you can also purchase the paid subscription that allows you to use a photo identifier to ID your plants, gives you wintering instructions, tells you when to prune, and includes the ability to use your smartphone camera as a light meter. This app also goes beyond your houseplants and allows you to track your edible plants and entire yard, if you want.

So far, Planta has provided exactly what I need. I can turn off all the reminders for plant care and customize it as I wish. So far, I have inventoried 73 plants in the free app without hitting a limit. I also have not seen any advertisements or popups on the free version, which is a huge bonus. Whether you are a novice or expert, this app should meet your needs.
