Tuesday Tip: Is Your iPhone Stalking You?

iPhone showing map of NYCAs a matter of fact, it may be stalking you and draining your battery by constantly tracking your location and movement. If you’re not comfortable with being tracked (News Flash: I’m not!) and want to extend your battery life, let’s go!

  • In Settings go to Privacy and Security Settings > Location Services > System Services all the way at the bottom of the screen.
  • Turn off everything except Emergency SOS, Find My iPhone and Motion Calibration & Distance.
  • At the bottom of the list, turn off Significant Locations. This tracks your every move and puts a big strain on your battery.
  • Finally, hit Back and return to System Services. Scroll down to the Product Improvement section and turn off iPhone Analytics and Routing & Traffic. When turned on, these two setting send tracking information to Apple and don’t increase the efficiency of your iPhone in any way.

Caveat: Don’t to turn off Location Services entirely. Turning off System Services lets your iPhone continue to function normally but doesn’t send data about your location to Apple for marketing purposes.
