Deleted texts, photos, and files on your phone are usually stored for 30 days in case you need to recover them. If you share devices with your family or sell your phone, this can lead to problems. Here’s how to permanently delete your information.
- On an iPhone:
- For Messages:
- Go to the main page of your Messages.
- Select Recently Deleted to recover
texts or delete them forever.
- For Files:
- Open Files, then go to Browse, then Recently Deleted.
- For Photos and Videos:
- Go to your Photos, then go to the Albums icon at the bottom of the page.
- Scroll to Recently Deleted at the bottom of the page.
- Hit Select, choose Delete All and permanently delete them.
- For Messages:
- On an Android:
- For Messages:
- Google Messages deletes texts permanently, as it doesn’t have a recycle bin.
- For Files:
- Go to Files and tap the three lines at the top left.
- Go to Trash.
- For Messages:
- On a Messaging App:
- Look for the Recently Deleted section.
Your devices may automatically be syncing to other devices so keep this in mind. Protect your privacy by making sure your gadgets aren’t storing your data.
