Tuesday Tip: Curb Your Phone Addiction

Girl looking sideways at mobile phone while studying in a park with a green backgroundSome of us are more attached to our phones than others. I am very attached. Options abound to minimize phone use, but there is a simple way you may want to try: Change your phone’s color scheme to grayscale.

Removing all color from the screen is more effective than you might think. It basically tricks your brain, makes your phone less fun to use, and minimizes the urge to pick it up.

Of course, results will vary, but what have you got to lose? Ready to give it a shot and get back more of your time?

If you are using an iPhone, open Settings, then choose Accessibility > Display & Text Size > Color Filters. Toggle on Color Filters and choose Grayscale. This will remove all color from your iPhone’s screen, until you toggle the switch off again.

If you want to get even more creative, reduce your screen’s brightness. If you have to squint to see the screen, you will be less likely to pick it up. You can do this by going to Settings and choosing Display & Brightness. Drag down the brightness slider to the level you want. For even quicker access to this brightness slider, drag down from the top right of the screen to bring up Control Center, where you’ll find the slider near the center of the screen.

I hope this might help you gain back more time in your busy life!
