Tuesday Tip: Work SMARTER, not HARDER

I love to set goals for myself, but I have a hard time turning an idea into an action. SMARTER goals help me create a path to a defined, attainable goal. SMARTER is an acronym that includes all the ingredients you need for success, with the criteria attributed to Peter Drucker’s Management by Objectives.

To make sure your goals are clear and attainable, each one should be:

Specific – What do I want to accomplish? Why is this goal important? What is involved?
Measurable – To track your progress and stay motivated, ask: How much? How many? How will I know when my goal is accomplished?
Achievable – Your goal needs to be realistic and attainable to be successful.
Relevant – Does your goal matter to you? Is it worthwhile?
Time-bound – Every goal needs a target date for completion.
Evaluated – What’s working, what’s not? What’s gone well, what hasn’t? What are the results?
Reviewed – What’s my next goal? Will I make any changes in my process for future goals?
