Tuesday Tip: The Fine Art of Regifting (Without Getting Caught)

Disappointed woman holding a gift in her hands. We all have one, that mystery gift sitting on the counter, the one that makes you wonder, “Who exactly did they think I was when they bought this?”. Instead of letting it collect dust until next December, give it a new home! Regifting doesn’t come off as rude anymore, it’s responsible recycling with a dose of community spirit.

Apps like Nextdoor and Freecycle make this ridiculously easy. On Nextdoor, open the “For Sale & Free” section, snap a quick photo, and post your item with a short description (bonus points for a funny caption—”Instant Pot: instantly intimidated me. Yours if you’re braver!”). Someone nearby will likely claim it within hours. Freecycle works the same way. Join your local group, click “Offer,” and list your item. You’ll be amazed at how quickly that questionable decorative vase finds a new home.

If you like to plan ahead, create a clearly labeled “Regift Bin.” Label it wisely, nothing feels more awkward than handing your coworker the same candle they gave you last year.

So go ahead and tackle your post-holiday cleanup with pride. One person’s “what was this?” easily becomes another’s “exactly what I needed.”
