Tired of opening files just to see what’s inside? You can download an app for Windows called QuickLook, which lets you quickly preview almost any file without launching the associated application. This tool is a massive time-saver!
Here’s how you can use it:
-
: Download QuickLook.
-
: Navigate to the file you want to preview in File Explorer. This works for images, videos, documents (like PDFs, Word files, and text files), and even compressed archives.
-
: With the file selected, simply press the spacebar on your keyboard to open a preview window showing the file’s contents.
-
: You can navigate and interact with the preview, though editing is not possible. For images and videos, use the left and right arrow keys to cycle through files in the same folder. Some file types will display basic information or a scrollable preview. For PDFs, you can scroll through the pages.
-
: Press the spacebar again or click anywhere outside the preview window to close it.
If you’re familiar with MacOS, you might recognize this feature. Although the Windows version is a bit more limited than the Mac version, it still offers significant time-saving benefits when searching for the right file.
