Do you feel like recalls or warnings about food and cosmetics are becoming increasingly common? I certainly do. That’s where the Yuka app steps in to help you make informed choices.
Launched in France in January 2017, Yuka has expanded to 12 countries and became available in the U.S. in 2020. Its mission is simple: empower consumers to make healthier decisions about food and cosmetic products by scanning barcodes. The app evaluates ingredients and assigns ratings—Excellent, Good, Poor, or Bad—based on nutritional quality, additives, and potential risks. It also provides detailed feedback for each rating and suggests healthier alternatives. For example, when I scanned the oat milk in my fridge, the app flagged it as “Poor” due to additives and recommended better-rated options.
What makes Yuka stand out is its independence. It operates without influence from brands or manufacturers, does not feature ads, and relies on responsible funding sources to maintain objectivity. This ensures that its analyses and recommendations remain unbiased.
The app is user-friendly, requiring only an email address and password to get started. Once set up, you can scan products effortlessly to begin making smarter choices for yourself and your family.
