Tuesday Tip: Don’t Let Your Computer Throw A Party Without You!

Online birthday party concept with mock-up laptop, Black Forest cake, present box and decorations on white desk and brick wall.Ever step away from your desk “just for a second” only to return and catch a coworker changing your desktop background to a picture of a dancing llama? (Don’t laugh, it happens more than you’d think!)

Here’s the deal:

Lock your computer when you walk away to keep pranksters at bay and protect sensitive information from wandering eyes, accidental clicks, and would-be cyber snoops.

Tech Tip: Lock Your Computer Like You Lock Your Front Door

Do you ever leave your house with the door wide open, inviting anyone to wander in and help themselves to your stuff? Of course not! So why leave your computer unlocked when you step away? Keep your data and your dignity safe by locking your screen just like you lock your deadbolt.

  • To lock your screen on a PC, press Windows + L.
  • To lock your screen on a Mac, press Control + Command + Q

Bonus: Lock it before you walk it!

Being smart and security-focused means you never have to come back to find your email auto-reply set to “I’m out of office indefinitely.”
