Microsoft Snipping Tool icon Microsoft has loaded the Windows 11 Snipping Tool with powerful features designed to streamline your workflow and boost your productivity. The next time you press Win + Shift + S or launch it from your Start menu, keep these standout capabilities in mind:

Record Your Screen – You can now record your screen directly from the Snipping Tool. Capture video with audio from your microphone and system by:
- Opening the Snipping Tool
- Clicking the video camera icon
- Select your recording area and hitting start
Extract and Redact Text – The new Text Actions feature leverages Optical Character Recognition (OCR) to detect text within your screenshots. After taking a snip, click the “Text Actions” button on the toolbar to:
- Copy text straight from the image
- Redact sensitive information before sharing
- Recognize QR codes and provide embedded links

Advanced Annotation and Markup – The updated Snipping Tool lets you:
- Draw lines, arrows, rectangles, and circles for clearer communication
- Use a virtual ruler to measure distances on your screen
- Identify any color on your screen with a built-in color picker, displaying HEX, RGB, or HSL values—ideal for designers and developers

Time Your Snips – If you need to capture a menu that appears only on hover:
- Set a timer for 3, 5, or 10 seconds to set up the perfect shot before capture
