Tuesday Tip: Are You Tired of Receiving Spam Texts?

spam stop signs
spam stop signsHow many spam texts do you delete a day? I’m willing to bet it is more than you want. Did you know you can do something about it?
  • On Apple device: From the Messages app, open the conversation, tap the contact at the top of the conversation. Tap the info blue info button with person icon inside button, scroll down, then tap Block this Caller.
  • On Android device: Open the Messages app Messages Logo Round, touch and hold the conversation you want to report, tap Block , then report spam, and OK.
Additionally, you can send information on the sender to the GSMA Spam Reporting Service, the industry standard for gathering actionable intelligence on mobile network traffic. Simply forward the message to “7726” (which spells SPAM on your phone’s keypad). The messages they receive are aggregated, analyzed and incorporated into spam “fingerprints” by the system. These fingerprints give operators important details about origination, size, intent and growth pattern of the attack, providing mobile operators with the insight that they need to detect SMS spam, terminate originating numbers, and develop preventative policies and procedures to protect their networks and subscribers.

Personal customers are responding to the opportunity to join the fight against spam through the GSMA Spam Reporting Service service. Over the last 30 days alone, the operator has received nearly 10,000 reported messages from approximately 4,500 unique reporters. You can learn more on the GSMA website.
