Tuesday Tip: Teams Background Changes

Woman on ComputerAs more and more meetings move to a digital platform it becomes more important to know how to use the virtual meeting spaces.  One simple, but useful tip, is to change the background of your video.  Microsoft Teams has some preset options for backgrounds and gives you the ability to upload your own background.

Once you enter a meeting, when you set up your audio and video options there is a Background Effects option just to the right of the mic switch.  From here you can select one of the preset pictures Teams has for you or the blur option, which will blur out the background.  Depending on the background your currently have the blur options may not look so great; it has been hit and miss for me.

The Teams presets for you range from some standard stock office shots to a few pop culture references, but it also give you the option to upload a .JPG, .PNG, or .BMP file to use as a background.  Do note that the resolution on these files will need to be 1920 x 1080.  A quick google search for the picture you want with “1080” in the search will give you the pictures you want.

Maybe you don’t want co-workers to see a messy room, cover up others that are working around you, or you are in a company celebration and want to show some festivity.  If you want to show a little personality during your meetings changing the background is a perfect option for you.
