Tuesday Tip: Spotify Group Session!

By: Andrew Edwards

Spotify, my preferred streaming service for both music and podcasts, just launched a really cool feature for its Premium listeners to use this past summer. Wouldn’t it be cool if you could listen to the same music at the same time as a friend or family member that is half-way around the world? Spotify Group Session now gives you the tools to pull that off.

Spotify allows two to five Premium users at a time join in on a Group Session. To start a Group Session, simply tap the Connect Menu on the bottom-left of the play screen. Then, select “Start Session” toward the bottom of your screen. From there, simply share the invite link over text message, social media, etc., or have your friend scan the Spotify code if they are listening in-person.

Once the Group Session begins, anyone in the Session has the power to change the music, pause, play, skip, or queue up a song to play later. In turn, these changes will be reflected on all participating users’ devices in real-time.

Personally, I recently used this feature in-person with a friend during a backpacking trip that included long days of hiking. Group Session worked great and we had a ton of fun climbing mountains with our music in-sync, so long as we had cell service.

Make sure to check out Group Session!
