Midtown traffic got you down? Spread your wings and fly with Bird
I cannot be the only person who wants to have a day out in the Midtown/downtown area of Atlanta. With all the amazing restaurants, breweries, and festivals, it is not a place you can be easily bored. The downside to the plethora of options is the impossible nature of the traffic. Between the cost of parking, Ubers, and lost time, a day out can cost quite a bit of money if you want to bounce around. These 3 downsides have been addressed, and you no longer need to worry about them. Download the Bird app and get going!
The Bird app is available for both Android and iPhone. Birds are rentable, electric motor-powered scooters stationed all over the city. I’ll walk you through how to get started below:
- Download the app and input your information.
- You will see multiple “birds” located on a map on your screen. Select one by tapping the icon on the screen, then move to its location. I have never walked more than a half-mile to pick one up.
- Once you have your Bird, grab it and get going! There is a throttle on your right-hand side (by your thumb). Brake is on the left.
- Once you have reached your destination, simply park the scooter out of the way, open your app, and hit end. (Cost is usually under $5!)
I love this app. Once I am in that part of town, I know I can go anywhere I want to go without having to sit in traffic, wait and pay for an Uber, or pay for parking. They are not only an affordable way of getting around, they are fun too!
Make sure to bring some earphones for some music and GPS while you tear it up. And, finally, ride responsibly – helmets are a must!
Spread your wings and fly!
