Everyone’s familiar with the phrase “information is power”. And “Seinfeld” fans remember Newman, when he was asked about working in the post office, saying, “Just remember, when you control the mail, you control…..information.” Anyway the point of that tangent is that as a society we are bombarded with so much information today from sources such as email, television and the internet that often times it is difficult to sort through it in order to find what you need.
So here’s an excellent tool to help keep you up to date and save you time in the process. Flipboard is an app that is currently available on the iPad, iPhone and has just been released for the Android. And it’s free!
Flipboard aggregates information based on topics of your liking – i.e. News, Sports, Technology – and then presents them to you in a sort of electronic magazine format. You can then ‘flip’ through the articles at your leisure and when one catches your interest you can either expand it or link directly to the source.
I have found it to be a great tool to stay current and up to date on topics that are of interest to me (world news, technology, medical news/trends and of course…English football). Not only that but because it presents feeds from a variety of worldwide sources such as the Huffington Post, the LA Times, the BBC and The Guardian, I’m getting a lot of different sides to each story.
Why is this a tech tip? Well, I find it’s a great tool for keeping me informed in my interest areas and, better yet, it requires very little effort which is a great use of my time.
So, if you aren’t already using Flipboard take a look and I’m sure you’ll find it as useful as I do.
