No–one knows better than Medical Administrators that time is money. After all, the more efficient the practice runs then the more patients they are able to see. So in today’s technologically driven world why do many of us (not just those in the medical field) feel that technology actually slows us down? My guess is that we never take the time to learn the nuances of the technology products we use, which is sort of like driving a Ferrari in 1st gear.
On that note – it’s the little things that can make a difference and some of those things are keyboard shortcuts.
There are so many good keyboard shortcuts that it’s not possible to be able to learn them all quickly and get proficient at using them. I try to find a few at a time, apply them to my daily routine and then once they have become second nature, I’ll look for a few more.
Here are my 6 new favorite keyboard shortcuts when surfing the Internet (these work in any browser – Explorer, Firefox, Chrome, etc.):
Scrolling through webpages – Don’t waste your time clicking on or dragging the scroll bar to the right of the webpage. Instead try this:
1) Tap the ’SPACE’ bar – the webpage will scroll down for you instantly one page at a time.
2) Tap ‘SHIFT + SPACE’ bar at the same time and the page will scroll back up, one page at a time.
Opening new browser pages – Again, don’t use your mouse to point and click. There are 2 ways to do this depending on how you want to view the webpage:
3) CTRL + T – this will open a new tab in the current browser.
4) CTRL + N – this will open a new browser in a new window (this one also works if you’re working in Office documents).
Zooming In and Zooming out – Most websites have a lot of content on them and despite the fact that they render at 100%, depending on your actual screen size you might want to change the size of the webpage for easier viewing. Do you remember where the zoom in and out commands are in the Chrome browser menu? Me neither. Here’s how to quickly do it on the keyboard:
5) Zoom in = CTRL and +
6) Zoom out = CTRL and –
So, there you have it: 6 quick keyboard shortcuts for faster Internet browsing.
