Tuesday Tip: Re-Docking Your Laptop

By Kate O’Neal

Speaking from personal experience, and some of you who use docking stations can likely sympathize with me, there is nothing more frustrating than when you undock your laptop to take it to a meeting, and after the meeting, you quickly close your laptop because you’re in a hurry to get back to work and are unable to successfully re-dock your laptop. The monitors don’t turn on, and you’re unable to work because you’re trying to figure out why in the world your docking station and laptop JUST AREN’T WORKING!

One of our engineers recently let the Sales team know there’s an easy solution to that. Before you close your laptop after the meeting, simply lock your laptop. Once you re-dock it and power on the docking station, you’ll be brought to the login screen where you can simply log in, and VOILA! You’re ready to work again. Need a reminder on how to lock your computer? It’s a simple combination of the Windows + L keys.

When I leave my desk to go to a meeting, I have not experienced any issues from simply undocking my laptop and opening the screen in the meeting. Just be sure to get in the habit of locking your laptop prior to shutting the screen before you return to your desk.
