We have all heard it – brain teasers help to keep your brain fit. Memorization games and puzzles have been shown to stimulate the brain and increase the connections between brain cells. A study in the Journal of the American Geriatrics Society showed that older adults given “brain training” display an equivalent or higher level of sharpness 10 years later. The more you challenge your brain, the more new nerve pathways you form, and the better you can reduce the risk of age-related cognitive decline.
I get it; brain teasers are good for you. Unfortunately, some brain teaser apps are just plain boring. Rarely do I keep playing one for more than a week, max. I need an app that will keep me engaged over the long term, so it needs to be interesting and – most importantly – free.
SongPop 2 is a music trivia app where you have to guess the artist or title of the music playing faster than your opponent. This challenges your mind to recognize the song as quickly as possible to defeat the other player. You can compete against your friends and music lovers worldwide.
This app is extremely fun, and while it has music for everyone, the majority of the songs send you down memory lane.
The first day I played, I was hooked, and I haven’t stopped since.
Music Selection
You can choose from a large array of different music categories. Select a song based on genre, decade, or from one of many curated playlists made by SongPop 2. If you like a playlist, you can use some of the gold coins the game allots you to save the playlist to your account.
Challenge Opponents
Invite your Facebook friends or select a player at random to start a session. If you dislike the person’s genre preference, you can delete their match. I have done this plenty of times.
Rewards
When you log into the app, you can win daily rewards that will give you special perks inside the game. Some daily rewards include power-ups to gain an advantage, VIP passes to access more songs, coins to purchase more playlists, and tickets to join tournaments that allow you to play against multiple players simultaneously.
Play long enough, and you will start to remember the songs on each playlist. Play well enough, and you will place on the charts as one of the best players in the game.
SongPop 2 is available for free on Android’s Google Play store and iPhone’s App store, so regardless of which device you have, you can download the app. I heartily recommend SongPop 2 as a fun, entertaining way to exercise your brain.
