Tuesday Tip: Helpful iPhone Tips

by Cheryl Sklar

Helpful iPhone TipsI recently upgraded to the iPhone 6S and OS version 9.3.  While getting acclimated to my new toy, I’ve discovered some new fun tips that I’d like to share. First of all, did you know that this phone comes with tips right on your phone? This version has 56 tips, with quick and easy photos and instructions on how to do neat stuff. Some may be familiar and even obvious to you. Some may surprise you with an “aha” moment.

Here are a few of my favorites. . .

Quickly Save Email Drafts:
While you’re composing an email on your phone, you can save the draft (in the event that you get easily distracted by squirrels and shiny things, like I do). Simply swipe the title of your email down from the top to the bottom of the screen. The drafts will stay there until you tap to retrieve – and finish – them.

Forward a Text Message:
Forward a text messageIn a text thread where you would like to share several, but not all, parts, press and hold one of the text bubbles. “Copy and More…” will appear.  Choose “More…” and the text will shift to the right and circles will appear on the left.  Check the circles for the ones you want to select and share.  Then press the forward arrow on the bottom right and send them along.

Reduce Eye Strain at Night:
eye strain with iphoneWhile we all know we should give our eyes a break from technology and screen time before we go to bed, we still spend more time than we should looking at our phones at night. To reduce eye strain, you can set your phone to automatically adjust your phone display brightness. Schedule Night Shift to turn on from a set time in the evening to a set time in the morning. Go to Settings > Display & Brightness > Night Shift.

Adjust your Camera’s Exposure:
When you’re taking a picture, tap the screen. A square will appear to quickly focus it before you press the red button to take the picture. An additional feature allows you to adjust the exposure (the lightness or darkness of the photo) by sliding your finger up or down to the right of the square, before you click to shoot.

Get the User Guide:
